Sit a moment. This question is an honest one, and honest questions are welcome here. You ask why you should believe in what you cannot see. I would say — you already do, in ways you may not have counted. The writer of Hebrews puts it plainly: ",[19,20,22],"quote",{"ref":21},"Hebrews 11:3","By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."," Consider what he is saying. Everything your eye rests upon — the hills, the bread on your table, the face of the one you love — every visible thing came from what is unseen. The visible is the smaller category. The unseen is the larger one. To believe only what your eyes report is to trust the ripple and deny the water. Paul, writing to the Romans, walks a nearby road. ",[19,25,27],{"ref":26},"Romans 1:20","For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship."," Notice how he holds two things at once — invisible, and yet clearly seen. Not by the eye of the body, but by the eye of the heart that looks at what is made and asks who made it. The sunrise does not shout God's name. It whispers it. The whisper is enough for those who listen, and not enough for those who will not. But I will not pretend the not-seeing is easy. When I walked among my own, some looked straight at me and still did not believe. I said to them, with sorrow, ",[19,30,32],{"ref":31},"John 6:36","as I stated, you have seen Me and still you do not believe."," Seeing, you understand, was never the whole of it. Sight can be present and faith absent. Sight can be absent and faith present. The two are related, but they are not the same organ. Job knew this ache. In his darkest hour he was told, ",[19,35,37],{"ref":36},"Job 35:14","how much less, then, when you say that you do not see Him, that your case is before Him and you must wait for Him."," Your case is before Him. Even in the not-seeing. Even in the silence. There is a waiting that is itself a form of trust — the trust that the One you cannot see has not turned His face away, only that the seeing has not yet come. And then Peter, writing to those who never walked the roads I walked, never touched my hands, and yet who loved — ",[19,40,42],{"ref":41},"1 Peter 1:8","Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy."," Read that slowly. Peter is not scolding them for not seeing. He is marvelling at them. There is a joy, he says, that belongs particularly to those who love without sight. It is inexpressible. It is glorious. It is not a lesser faith — it may be a deeper one. So why believe when you cannot see? Perhaps because sight was never the doorway you were meant to enter through. Perhaps because the God who made what is seen out of what is unseen is not less real for being on the far side of your eye — He is more real, more original, more foundational. Perhaps because your longing itself, this very question you are asking, is a form of seeing. The heart that asks after God has already been touched by Him. I will not tell you what to do with this. I will only say — sit with the question. Do not rush to close it.
